- DEVELOPING YOUR FAITH
- The word faith reflected only twice in the entire old testament scripture and reflected 245 times in the new testament, and the word believe occurred 45 times in old testament and 268 times in the new testament, however the word trust is the other old testament word for faith. The Literal Definitions Of FaithThe word faith in the literal context simply means:-
- To confide in
- To be sure of a thing without fear or doubt
- To take shelter in a thing with confidence
- To put hope in a thing
- To stay or rest confidently in a thing
- To rely on something
- To believe or take one at his word.
- To rely upon the promises of another
- To put absolute trust upon a person without any questioning or doubt as to his or her faithfulness.
The Biblical Definition Of FaithOn the contrary, the Bible defined faith as: The substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen (Heb.11:1)However , this verse of the scripture have received numerous interpretations ranging from the following:-- ” Faith is a well grounded assurance of that for which we hope”
- ” A conviction of the reality of things which we do not see
- ” Now faith is the title deed of things hope for, and the putting proof of things not seen
However, Appostle Paul in the book of Romans 4:17, Expresses true faith as an atribute of God, ” Who quickneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. From this scripture one will understandably realize that faith is a union of assurance and conviction, and the counting and rekoning of a thing done as though it were already done. What Faith Is NotThere are certain things which are contrary to the principles of faith and they include the following:-- Faith is not feeling that your prayers have beenanswered
- Faith has not the slightest relationship with feelings and sense of evidence
- True faith is not trusting and in the faith of another man
- Neither mental faith nor mere assent to truth and dependence upon feeling is enough to be counted as faith
Different Kinds Of FaithsThere are several kinds of faith mentioned in the scripture, of which the following list will be helpful in arriving to the kind that a genuine Christian should have.1) Common faith (Titus 1:4) and it is been referred to as the Mutual faith (Romans 1:12) This is the expected of every Christian.2) Weak faith (Romans 4:19; 14:1-23; 15: 1-4 and 1 Cor.8:1-13) This is the kind of faith that constantly limit our daily benefits and previlages in the Gospel.3) Strong faith (Room.4:20) this faith is the kind that refuses to be defeated, the type that refuses to take no for an answer.4) Little faith (Math. 6:30; 8:26; 14:31)5) Great faith (Math.8:10; 15:28; Heb. 11:6)6) Unfeigned faith (1Tim.1:5; 2Tim1:5)7) Temporary faith (Luke 8:13)8) Historical Faith (1Jn.5:10-13)9) Mental faith ( James 2:14-26)10) Active Faith.Faith Has The Key To Great Supernatural DoorsThe Importance Of FaithThe Bible definitely declared that faith is all important: But without faith it is impossible to please God, for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and he is the rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
