THE MINISTER AND THE WORKS OF THE MINISTRY

November 13, 2018 hyjohn1968"THE MINISTER AND THE WORK OF THE MINISTRY"

Every preacher should be able to say without hesitation, ” I have a right to be a preacher!” No, not because he is better than others; not because he is been favored above others in the sight of God; not even because he has inherited a peculiar immunity to the common tasks of life. No, indeed not! In sincere humbleness of soul. His words words therefore should be those of Apostle Paul who said, “Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given to me, that I should preach…… (Eph. 3:8)

THE CALL TO MINISTRY

First and foremost your right to be a pastor is backed up by your divine call to occupy that office. And how do you know that you have a call to be a pastor? This has always been the battle that many practicing ministers faces today inwardly in their heart. But you need not surround your feelings with this unwanted thoughts, because God has designed to put his hand upon you for this purpose, for this is your calling in life. God will keep on affirming this to his called one’s through the days and years. The call of God is an abiding conviction that is within you and reaffirming his desire to use you for his earthly works.

DEFINITE IDENTIFYING MARKS TO THE CALL OF MINISTRY
Although the genuine call to the ministry is a convincing but somewhat inexplicable experience with some definite attributes, such as the following ones:
* It involves God as the prime mover, which means it is more of calling than a profession, for Jesus said, “Ye have not choosen me, but I have choosen you, and ordained you. (John 15:16) Therefore every preacher ought to be POSSESED by the inescapable conviction that he has been called by God. Therefore his choice of ministry as a profession should not be self insighted nor result from the desire of a professional distinction, personal gain, increased leisure, time or control over people.
* It also involves the choice of man to surrender to such call. Therefore, the call of God also involves the duty of man and his previlage to respond to such calls. Therefore, it should be considered to as a high honor to be singled out by God and saperated to the work of the ministry.
 PRINCIPAL CHARACTERISTICS
OF A GENUINE CALL FROM GOD
1) The origin of the call, meaning that the call must originate from God himself and not self.
2) Definiteness of the call, meaning that if the call is actually from God, what ever the initial experiences may have been, it will be supported with the lingering persuation and the deep abiding convictions.
3) The acknowledgement of the call, this is the final seal of the work of divine Grace in the heart which does not come untill there is an open acknowledgement
4) The supporting evidence of the call
5) The evidence of God’s blessing and approval in the salvation and establishment of souls. According to Apostle Paul in (1 corithians 9:2) ” For the seal of my apostleship are ye in the Lord,”
THE PITFALLS OF THE MINISTER AND HIS DIVINE MINISTERIAL CALLING
According to words of Apostle Paul to the Corithians “Necessity is laid upon me; ye, woe is unto me, if I preach not the Gospel! For if I do things willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a disensation of the Gospel is committed unto me. (1 Cor. 9:16,17) therefore it is a very high honor to be singled out by God Himself for the purpose of the work if the ministry and as such should be accepted with all humility and diligence and call from God is nothing to strife with this is because a genuine call from God is backed up with an obligation that can not be rejected. Therefore the call and the woe are insaparatable this is because the call of God carries a divine mandate which involves the following “PREACH OR BURN” Which means if you are not ready to preach then be ready to face the persecutions from God Himself.
THE THINGS EVERY MINISTER MUST PUT INTO CONSIDERATION WHILE ACCEPTING THE CALL TO THE WORKS OF THE MINISTRY ARE:
1. His reputation as a minister and that of the ministry
2 The subjugation of the ministry ( meaning that he must understand that he is a servant to the ministry)
3) His sacrifice to the ministry
4) The Stewardship of the ministry ( meaning his readiness to use his time and means to serve God)
5) The diginity of the ministry ( this involves his willingness to respect the ministry and the constituted authorities thereof)
6 The spirituality of the ministry ( meaning that he must be spiritual and also willing to promote spirituality among the people)
These are some of the fundamentals of the office of the minister and the ministry.
